According to the Australian Conservation Foundation, the increasing temperature of 3-5 degrees Fahrenheit in the ocean combined with acidic water could kill 97 percent of these exotic reefs. It is tagged as one of the seven natural wonders of the world by CNN. Besides, the reef has lost half of its coral cover since 1985, according to a study by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences published in October 2012, reports Travel + Leisure.
