10. The Stone Forest, China

The Stone Forest also known as 'Shilin' is an extraordinary set of limestone formation which is located in the Yunnan Province. This limestone formations cover over 150 square miles and they range from 16 to nearly 100 feet tall. The reason why these formations are called Stone Forest is because from a distance these pillars look like tress.

Legend: According to old Chinese belief, this forest was the birth place of a beautiful girl of the yi people-Ashima. It is said that she fell in love, but was denied permission to marry her love and instead she was turned into a stone, which still bears her name.
