Kerala Kalamandalam Thrissur
Kalamandalam Deemed University of Art and Culture, is a major centre for learning Indian performing arts, especially those that developed in the Southern states of India, with the special emphasis on Kerala.It is situated in the village of Cheruthuruthy in Thrissur District on the banks of the Bharathapuzha river.
Founded in 1930 by renowned poet Padmabhooshan Vallathol Narayana Menon along the banks of the river Nila in the Cheruthuruthy village of Thrissur District, Kalamandalam is an immortal name in the cultural map of the world.
Kalamandalam is strictly a residential center of learning. Veteran teachers and talented students are its inestimable wealth. For art-recitals held in Kalamandalam and outside, artiste-teachers and students participate.
The Institution also offers training in other traditional dance forms of Kerala like, Koodiyattam and Ottamthullal and other arts form like music, drama, and other dance forms.
Many internationally recognized artists in classing dancing have been trained here and the kalamandalam has contributed greatly in imparting dance training for over the past 78 years.August to March are the most favorable months for visiting Cheruthuruthy.The nearest cities are Thrissur, which is located at a distance of 32 kilometers from Cheruthuruthy, Guruvayur, located 29 kilometers away and Cochin which is located around 90 kilometers from this place.
