10 Amazing Rock Cut Caves in India

Bangalore: Rock cut caves have a certain aura that permeates through time. Standing steadfast for centuries, they tell us what mankind of that age deemed was best to preserve and showcase. Making caves by hollowing out rock at a time when power tools weren't invented, the monks achieved outstanding artisanship for their time.

1. Ajanta caves, Maharashtra

Carved between 200 BC and 600 AD, Ajanta Caves are a resplendent example of Indian rock-cut architecture. An exotic setting, impressive architecture, historic artwork helped tag it as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the paintings and sculptures are considered to be masterpieces of Buddhist religious art which also depict the Jataka tales. One expert says Emperor Harishena of the Vakataka Dynasty, a great patron of Buddhist architecture, art and culture commissioned most of the work. The drive from Aurangabad can take two or three hours.

Why no mention of great Karnataka dynasties of Chalukya and Rashtrakuta(Kailasanatha temple, Ellooru)? This is called double standards and hypocrisy! Bstrd reporters!!! that too a shame that this is published frm Blr,capital of KA.Imagine doing this kind of monkeying around in Bombay, Madras or Calcutta without mentioning maratta,tamil,bongos?
