Located in Kamakura, this religious place of worship has ten million people visiting it annually. The shrine is dedicated to Hachiman, a patron god of the Minamoto family. It was founded by Minamoto Yoriyoshi. The main hall stands on a terrace of the top of the wide stairway. It includes a small museum which displays various treasures owned by the shrine, such as swords, masks and documents. To the left of the stairway stands a large ginkgo tree which turns golden in the autumn every year. There are various events held in the new year and two ponds are seen flanking the shrine.
