India's passport has climbed to the
77th rank in the world, according to the
2025 Henley Passport Index released on Tuesday. This marks a three-spot jump from its previous position of 80.
The
Indian passport now grants
visa-free travel to 59 countries, placing it on par with Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, and Senegal.
The ranking evaluates 199 passports based on access to 227 destinations without a prior visa. It is compiled using data from the
International Air Transport Association (IATA) and enhanced by research from Henley & Partners. Although the number of
visa-free countries for Indian passport holders dipped slightly from 62 last year, India's passport has seen improvements for two consecutive years.
Indian citizens can enjoy
visa-free entry to 19 African nations, 18 in Asia, 10 each in North America and Oceania, and one in South America.
Globally,
Singapore retains the top spot in 2025 with
visa-free access to 194 countries.
Japan and
South Korea share second place, each offering access to 190 nations. France, Germany, and Italy follow with 189 visa-free destinations. In comparison,
Pakistan moved up to the 96th rank from 101st.
