India's Biggest and Most Popular Railway Stations
BANGALORE: 'The Land of Spices', India, was ruled by the British for nearly 200 years during which the country lost its status as the richest country having the world's largest economy. But one of the gifts they gave this country was railroads. Railroads were primarily introduced to serve the British interests because they needed an easier mode of transportation to shift their goods. Now railways have become the most popularly used form of transportation. The rail network in India is the 4th longest and heavily used transport system as it is cheap, fast and convenient. Here are some of the largest railway stations in that serve the Indian public.
Howrah Station, Kolkata :
Located on the west bank of the Hoogly River, Howrah Station is one of the oldest and largest railway stations in India. It has 26 platforms and handles the most trains compared to any other railway station in India. Moreover, Howrah Station is one among the busiest station because of the numbers of commuters the station witness every day.
Charbagh Railway Station, Lucknow : Charbagh Railway Station, also known as Lucknow NR, is one of the two main stations for the city of Lucknow.
The station was named 'Char Bhag' because of the four gardens that once surrounded it. It has nine platforms and is connected with all the major cities and metros. The station building has a palace like view with a garden and is a mixture of Rajput, Awadi, and Mughal architecture. The aerial view of the building shows that the building is like a chess board and the domes and pillars are like the pieces of the chess game.
