9 Museums to Visit this December

India, a country that has been inheriting the rich culture from a generation to another, alternatively our culture has gone through many tweaks in the process of inheritance, thus museums have been setup throughout the country to collect the evidence of our history.

1.Shivalik Fossil Park

Shivalik Fossil Park in Himachal Pradesh is dedicated to collection of prehistoric vertebrate fossils and skeletons recovered from the upper and middle Siwaliks geological formations of sandstones and clay at Suketi in the Sirmaur district of the respective state. Along with the fossils of the extinct animals and the park also house a museum, wherein the fossils are curated, the park is also acknowledged as the Asia biggest park and also one of the international centers to the pertaining studies.

2.Indian Museum

Indian Museum in Calcutta is that oldest and the largest museum in the country, that was founded by the Asiatic Society of Bengal in 1814. The museum is divided into six sections and five galleries, which includes Art, Archaeology, Anthropology, Geology, Zoology and Economic Botany sections. The museum went through a major renovation from 2013 to 2014 now is open for public visit from 10am to 5pm every day.

3.National Rail Museum, New Delhi

National Rail Museum in New Delhi is dedicated to heritage of the Indian Railways, which is spread over 10 acres of land in Chanakyapuri region of the city. The museum was inaugurated on 1 February 1977 and exhibits train models namely Patiala State Monorail Trainways, Fairy Queen, Fire Engine, Saloon of Prince of Wales, Saloon of Maharaja of Indore, Saloon of Maharaja of Mysore, Electric locomotive 4502 Sir Leslie Wilson, Electric locomotive Sir Roger Lumley, Cranetank, Kalka Shimla Rail Bus, Matheran Rail Car No 8899, Fireless steam locomotive, Steam Locomotive A 885 HASANG, Steam Locomotive X 7385, MG Diesel SR 203 (Fowler Diesel), Electric Locomotive YCG E1/21900, Betty Tramways ( Fowler Diesel.)

4.Lothal

Lothal is an archeological site in Ahmedabad that is now a museum and is open for the public visits. The site was once the major cities of the Harappan civilization and was excavated from 1955 to 1960 by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI.) Relatively archaeologists track the history of the site to be 3500 years old; the dedicated museum was setup in 1976 and aircrafts recovered from the site were put on to display. The museum remains closed on Friday and works from 10 am to 5 pm on all other days.

5.The Calico Museum of Textiles

The Calico Museum of Textiles is satiated in Ahmedabad and is one among top tourist destinations of the city. As the name itself says the museum is dedicated to collection of textiles and was established by the Gautam Sarabhai and his sister Gira Sarabhai in 1949 and was inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru.

6.Island Museum in Nagarjunakonda, Andhra Pradesh

Island Museum in Nagarjunakonda in Andhra Pradesh is collection of leftovers of the Buddhism that once existed in the place. The museum is named after Nagarjuna, who was a scholar and savant Acharya, place was a premier religious center during its time. Since the archeological site and the museum are on the island, the place fears the submergence due to Nagarjunasagar project.

7.Naval Aviation Museum

Naval Aviation Museum in Goa is military museum in Bogmalo, completely dedicated to Naval Air Army, which depicts the transformation of respective wing over three decades, which has two galleries; indoor and outdoor. The museum started functioning in 1998 and there is no such a museum in entire Asia.

8.Jawahar Toy Museum in Pondicherry

Jawahar Toy Museum in Pondicherry is one among top loved destinations by the kids in the country. Since it has a huge collection of toys from all the states of India, it represents the artistic heritage of its respective states. The museum has a small collection 120 toys, which are beautifully dressed and well arranged. However, the museum runs without the interest of profit, hence the place is entry free.

9.Baywatch

Baywatch is theme park in Kanyakumari, which hosts various water rides along with a wax museum. The wax museum is inspired by the Madame Tussauds in London and is One of its kind in the country, wherein the wax statues of the famous personalities are showcased. Since it is a place complied of amusement and astonishment, it is must visit place in the city.
