Best Indian Cities That Offer Highest Quality Of Life
Most of the Indian cities have emerged as the prime engines of the country's growth and generators of national wealth.
A Bangalore-based non-profit body, Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship & Democracy, recently issued a report on the best Indian cities offering the highest quality of life. The report is based on 115 parameters defining the function and policy framework of 21 selected cities.
1. Kolkata
West Bengal's capital city, Kolkata is the best city to live in India. This city house many industrial units and so adds a GDP of about $150 billion.
Various industries like steel, mining, cement, pharmaceuticals, food processing, agriculture, textiles and jute are the chief sectors responsible for economic growth. Being one of the most important financial hubs of East and North-East India, Kolkata is home to the Calcutta Stock Exchange. With around 4.5 million residents, the city attracts many tourists for its eye-catching architecture. It is the one and only city in whole of eastern India to have an international airport. Metro rail and cycle rickshaws play a vital role in the city's transport system.
2. Thiruvananthapuram
Formerly known as Trivandrum, Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of "God's own country". It is a clean city built on seven hills and named after the sacred snake Anantha.
With hills, temples, museums, beaches and natural beauty, Thiruvananthapuram is one of the most beautiful and evergreen city of Kerala. This city stretches across 214.86 sq km. and the population of more than quarter of a million drives past the busy streets in the cars.
One of the most literate cities across the world, Thiruvananthapuram is gradually closing on to become the next tech hub of the country. This city is now the second best place to live in India.
3. Bhopal
The capital city of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal is also known as the "city of lakes". This city is located at the upper limit of the Vindhya mountain ranges, with two most beautiful lakes and a Van Vihar National Park besides the Upper Lake. Besides, being a beautiful city of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal is the 16th largest city in India and 231st largest city in the world. It is divided into two parts-old Bhopal and new Bhopal.
A Y-class city, Bhopal houses various institutions and installations of national importance. Some of these include ISRO's Master Control Facility, AIIMS Bhopal (Established in 2012), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) AMPRI, and Gandhi Medical College, to name a few. 4. Patna
The capital and the populous city in Bihar, Patna has ranked as 21st fastest growing cities in the world and the fifth fastest growing cities in India. In June 2009, the World Bank ranked Patna in second place in India, after Delhi, in terms of the ease of starting a business. As at 2004-2005, the city had the largest per capita gross district domestic product in Bihar at 31, 441.
