The airport has been renamed in the honour of Kempe Gowda, a king under the Vijayanagar Empire who ruled the region that is now the city of Bangalore.The airport now boasts of a new terminal with a modern design, plush exteriors and many amenities. The terminal has 26 boarding gates, 15 aerobridges. A new, high-tech AOCC (Airport Operational Control Center) serves as the nerve-centre of the airport and helps both airlines and concessionaires to streamline processes, BIAL says.
Bangalore airport was the fourth busiest airport in the country in terms of overall passenger traffic of 11.59 million and fifth busiest in terms of international passenger traffic.
