Calangute is a popular beach in north Goa, which is also known as the Queen of beaches. It is located 15km from Panjim, the capital city. It is one of the most popular and beautiful beaches in Goa which serves as the hub of excitement.
The beach was discovered by the hippies in the 1960's and it was a busy fishing village once. It is the first beach to adopt the hippie culture in the 60's and 70's. Tasty seafood, parasailing, wind surfing and water-skiing facilities makes the beach a core fun place.
Calangute is surrounded by palm and coconut trees and the Golden sand along the beach and water sports adds to the beauty of the beach. There are numerous stalls selling fried prawns, beer, seashells under the shade of palm trees.
The place offers excellent accommodation facilities, particularly at the tourist resorts and cottages. Hippies and tourists enjoy themselves by dancing and partying during night time.

The best season to visit this beach is during summer, especially in the month of May and also at the time of Christmas and New Year. Kerkar Art Complex situated near the beach organizes art exhibitions and shows during the summers.
The nearest airport is Dabolin and Karmali is the nearest railway station.
