Bangalore: While few monuments have created history, the others have been created because of history.
There are a few monuments across the globe, that have gone unnoticed for their construction.
Here are a few that have created history and controversy!
1. Che Guevara Statue, Bolivia
After having lived a life of condemn for his aggressive methods of proving things right, the legendary social activist Ernesto 'Che' Guevara has a memorial built in his name. He continues to remain the 'Saint Ernesto' to the farmworkers of La Higuera for his passionate contribution for the rights of the poor.
This 22 ft bronze statue in Santa Cuba is built exactly at the spot where he was captured and executed.
2. Valley of the Fallen, Spain
This monument was built to commemorate the soldiers who died during the 1930's Spanish Civil War by General Francisco Franco.
Known as the 'Valle de Los Caidos', Valley of the Fallen was rated as the third most visited monument of Patrimonio Nacional in 2009. It is an underground church, almost 500ft high built above a tomb made out of solid granite. It took over 15 years for the political prisoners to carve the basilica into a mountainside.
3. Christ of the Pacific, Peru
This 120 ft monument made out of resin, is a white statue of Christ the Reddemer with extended arms. The statue with a height of 72 feet, consists of a lighting system with 26 different colors that lights up the capital city's coastline at night.

The Cristo del Pacifico, as it is known in Peru is now the world's tallest Christ statue. It is clearly noticeable from every corner of the Peruvian capital.
4. Crazy Horse Memorial, South Dakota
Located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Crazy Horse Memorial stands as the world's largest mountain sculpture. Once completed the monument will be 641 feet in length and 563 feet in height with just the face of Crazy Horse, measuring 87.5 feet.
In addition to the mountain sculpture, Crazy Horse Memorial has a 40,000-square-foot welcome center with theatres, and is home to the Native American Educational and Cultural Center.
5. Second World War Monument to the Soviet Army, Bulgaria
This WWII monument built in 1954 in the honor of tenth anniversary of the Soviet showing Red Army soldiers fighting alongside the Bulgarian people, received a colorful makeover in June 2011.
Tourists flocked in big numbers to find the bronzed, tarnished into icons like The Joker, Superman, Ronald McDonald, SantaClaus, Captain America etc.
