Truckee, California
A charming mountain railroad town located just northwest of Lake Tahoe, TruckeeâÂÂs history is coupled to the saga of the ill-fated Donner Party, many of whom met their kismet (and scandalously resorted to cannibalism) while snowed in in the winter of 1846.
The celebrated downtown Truckee today, includes the Flying âÂÂAâ rejuvenated gas station âÂÂturned- retail location , TruckeeâÂÂs old jail, one of the WestâÂÂs oldest incessantly working jails until 1964, and the First and Last Chance Saloon, its name a hat-tip to TruckeeâÂÂs past as a trail
