A charming mountain railroad town located just northwest of Lake Tahoe, Truckee’s history is coupled to the saga of the ill-fated Donner Party, many of whom met their kismet (and scandalously resorted to cannibalism) while snowed in in the winter of 1846.
The celebrated downtown Truckee today, includes the Flying “A” rejuvenated gas station –turned- retail location , Truckee’s old jail, one of the West’s oldest incessantly working jails until 1964, and the First and Last Chance Saloon, its name a hat-tip to Truckee’s past as a trail
