Top Station

The highest point (1700m) on the Munnar-Kodaikanal road, Top Station offers a panoramic view of the majestic Western Ghats. The rare Neelakurinji (Strobilanthus), for which the destination is popular, blooms once in twelve year. Top Station is 32 km from Munnar.

Being a top mountain on the Western Ghats, Top Station in Munnar offers panoramic views of the Western Ghats and Theni District. Though it is mostly blanked by mist, on a clear day, you can get breathtaking views. It is famous for its Neelakurinji plants that envelop the area in blue-violet when in full bloom.

Though climate is pleasant round the year, it is better to avoid the June-October period when roads become slippery due to rains.

There are many trekking routes from Munnar to Kodaikanal – the most scenic route is the one via Top Station. It is a 32 km route via Top Station, Koviloor, Bandharavu Mala and Kilavara, with thick forests for nearly 18 km. The trek begins early morning at Top Station. Trekkers take a jeep ride to the Koviloor village, where there are horses services to carry their luggage. Then, they trek to up the steep Bandharavu hill to get a view of the Kodai villages from the top of the hill. Finally, they reach the Kilavara village, and pass through Poondi, Mannavannur and Poompari to board a Kodai bus.
