#2 Kiribati
Kiribati, officially known as Republic of Kiribati is an island located in the central tropical Pacific Ocean. The island became independent from the United Kingdom in 1979. It is currently home to more than 100,000 people. Anote Tong, President of Kiribati has been in talks with Fiji's military government to buy up to 5,000 acres of land in order to relocate the citizens of the country.
The island is about halfway between Hawaii and Australia and is made up of 32 low-lying atolls and one raised island. Majority of the population has shifted to an island, Tarawam, after the rest of their land disappeared beneath the ocean. Those people who resided in Abaiang, one of the Kiribati islands had to relocate the entire village of Tebunginako because of rising seas and erosion.
