5. Cappadocia, Turkey
Once you enter Cappadoci you can be forgiven if you think that you left earth and landed on another planet. The most dominant feature of the landscape is the fairy chimneys. Cappadocia is an area which is located in the centre of the Anatolian Region of Turkey. The formation of the landscape is a result of eroding rains and winds for the past thousands of years passing through the plain located between volcanic mountains. These volcanic mountains were active till about 2 million years ago.

Interesting Facts: It is famous for its landscape which resembles that of the moon. Cappadoci has underground cities, churches and houses craved in to the rocks. During the Roman era the area served as a shelter for the early escaping Christians. There are also several underground cities used as hideouts in Cappadocia.
