10 Bizarre Landscapes on Earth
4. Bisti Badlands, New Mexico
Bisti Badlands otherwise also known as De-Na-Zin Wilderness is located in San Juan County in the state of New Mexico, USA. It is a 45,000 acre land that is little visited by tourists. Even plants and animals are hard to find in the Badlands.
Amazing Fact: This barren wilderness was once covered by an ancient sea, called the Western Interior Seaway. Over a period of time the water slowly receded, also taking away with it the prehistoric animals and plants. After the water disappeared it left behind a 1,400 foot layer of sandstone, mudstone, shale and coal. This area is a treasure trove for any paleontologists as there are many fossils and petrified woods.
