Situated on the banks of the Ganga, Kashi has more than one crore visitors annually. Kashi temple is the most sacred and perhaps the oldest temple in India. The religious Hindu god Lord Shiva is worshipped here. Shiva is known as the destroyer of the world and there is a belief that, Kashi is the spot at which the first divine "Jyotirlinga" erupted from the earth's crust and flared towards heaven. The belief continues that one who comes here attains liberation. Inside the Sanctum, a linga is located in the pivotal position which is black stone. Million of Indians and foreigners visit the place because of the historical importance.
