8. Sarangapani Temple
164 ft
shrine

Sarangapani Temple is located in Tanjore district of Tamil Nadu, along the river Cauvery. The shrine is in the shape of a chariot drawn by horses and elephants with openings on either side - a depiction of excellent architecture by Cholas during the 12th century. But, it is believed that certain parts of the temple were constructed by the renowned Pallava King Mahendra Varma in the 7th century. It is the biggest Vishnu temple in Kumbakonam and one among the three major shrines of Lord Vishnu.
