Ekambaranathar is the largest temple in the town of Kanchipuram which is spread across a massive area of 10 hectare including 4 courtyards. Lord Shiva and wife Parvati are the mian deities here and it is one of the five major Shiva temples or Pancha Bootha Sthalams. Constructed initially by Pallavas, since 600 AD, this is one of the most ancient temples in the country. Later on, the temple was rebuilt by the Chola kings and in the 10th century Adi Shankara remodelled this temple.
