Weekend Getaways From Bangalore To Visit Waterfalls

Chunchanakatte waterfallChunchanakatte waterfall on the Kaveri River, located near the village of Chunchanakatte in Mysore district. It is located about 15 km from the town of KR Nagar. A natural waterfall with surrounded by greenery makes this place an ideal picnic spot.It is famous for the Kodanda Rama temple on the banks. It is believed that Goddess Sita took a bath in this holy waters at Dhanuskoti thus rendering a tumeric tinge to the water.Water cascades from a height of about 20 meters. It is in the Western Ghats. Here the river falls in two small cascades before joining again to flow as one.

Shivanasamudram Waterfalls:Shivanasamudram is a quaint little village in the Mandya District of Karnataka. Located on the banks of the Kaveri, Shivanasamudram is among the most visited sites near Bangalore. This is also the place where first hydro electric power station of Asia was commissioned in the year 1902. . The Shivanasamudra falls are formed on the Cauvery river. A little distance before the falls, the river splits into two, forming an island. The two streams falls down to the same point and flows downstream.Best time to visit is July & August. One needs to trek 2kms through the lush greenery, along the banks of Cauvery to approach the falls. Sitting on the benches provided at the watch tower you can revel the beauty of the river plummet into a spray of mist.

Balmuri and Edmuri waterfalls:Balmuri and Edmuri waterfalls are two small beautiful waterfalls, located 3 kms off the Mysore to the KRS (Krishna Raja Sagara) main road. The place where the waterfalls are located is surrounded by lush greenery and is a hot spot among the locals as well. A visit to this place is calming and relaxing.The Edmuri falls is more suited for swimming and water games. The beauty of the falls is enhanced by the surrounding paddy fields and small island. There is also an ancient Ganesha temple near the Edmuri falls which can be a small detour on the visit here.
