Taipei 101:

5 Tallest Structures of the World

Consisting of 101 floors, Taipei became the world's tallest structure to be constructed in the new millennium and the first to cross the half-kilometer mark before the Burj Khalifa was made. Costing 1.76 billion dollars and completing in 2004, this multi-use steel-and-glass skyscraper was designed by C.Y. Lee & Partners and has 61 elevators. The Taipei 101 also has an 18 ft, 882-ton ball-shaped damper at the top that counteracts swaying motions during typhoons and earthquakes and has five floors underground too. The number "101" represents not only the number of floors, but also the mailing code of Taipei's international business district.
