Lesser Known Man-Made Marvels of the World!
El Mirador, Guatemala:
Hidden amidst 2,000 years of jungle growth in North Guatemala is the less-known 'Mirador Basin' which is also known as the Cradle of Maya Civilization.
Each of its pre-classic Maya cities - El Mirador, Nakbe, Xulnal, Tintal, and Wakna are larger and older than the well-known Tikal by almost 1,000 years. Their astonishing novelty comprise gigantic temples and pyramids, as well as La Danta, the largest-recognized pyramid in the world calculated by volume, and the ruins of the world's earliest highway system. Archeologists have also unearthed a massive limestone frieze that dates back to 200 B.C. . But an upsetting seventy percent of the forest has been cleared off for illegal logging and farming for cash crops in just a decade.
