10 Bizarre Landscapes on Earth

8. The Richat Structure, Mauritania
Otherwise known as the Eye of the Sahara, The Richat Structure is located in the Sahara Dessert in Mauritania near Ouadane. This huge circular structure is deeply eroded, dome shaped with a diameter of 40-km. The Richat Structure adds colour to the otherwise sober and barren landscape.

Interesting Facts: The geologists till date haven't been able to determine how this structure came into existence. In the beginning it was said to be a result of an asteroid impact. This theory was based on the high degree of circularity in the structure. But they weren't been able to find any concrete evidence that could prove this theory. A recent study concludes that it was created by low-temperature hydrothermal waters. A lot more has to be studied to solve the mystery behind its formation.
