5. Kerguelen Islands:
Similar to the McMurdo station, the only inhabitants of the Kerguelen Islands is a handful of scientists and workers. Located in the southern part of the Indian Ocean, this island is said to be a French territory where you can find a scientific center, a satellite and a French missile defense system. Also known as the 'Desolation Islands', this unique island was first discovered in 1772 followed by a number of biologists and explorers, including Captain Cook, visiting this place.
