The mountain railway which connects Ooty to mettupalayam is an incredible engineering marvel, built by British in the year 1908.The rice fields spread across an extensive area, the rocky terrain, the tea plantations and the stunning hills are some of the marvelous sceneries which serve as a real pleasure to your eyes! The track passes through 26 viaducts and 13 tunnels, covering places such as Coonoor, Kallar and Adderley. UNESCO added the Nilgiri Mountain Railway as an extension to the World Heritage Site of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway in 2005 and since then the site has been known as 'Mountain Railways of India.'
