The Kalka-Shimla Railway, a narrow gauge railway in North-West India is renowned for breathtaking views of the hills and surrounding villages. The stunning construction along with the panorama throughout the journey is a real feast and the travelers find the experience spell-binding. 102 tunnels, 87 bridges and 900 curves-the numbers are quite huge and the railway passes through all these, with vibrant orchids at the backdrop once you enter Shimla. If you are travelling in 'Himalayan Queen', you get the rare opportunity to step out and enjoy the magnificence of landscape, as the train stops quite frequently.
The Railway was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the World Heritage Site Mountain Railways of India, in the year 2008.
