Janjira Fort
With its rounded bastions, sculptures of beasts and animals and Ashok Chakras, the Janjira fort situated on an oval shaped rock off the Arabian sea is the only fort along the western coast that remains undefeated despite attacks from the Marathas, the Dutch and the English East India Company.
The fort is considered to be one of the strongest marine forts in the country. The main gate facing the shore of Rajapuri, the fort is approached by sailboats from the Rajapuri Jetty.
Today in ruins, the fort was originally a small wooden structure having inside it all the necessary facilities like palaces, officer's quarters, a mosque, a fresh water tank etc. , which educate the tourist on the Siddis who occupied this fort.
