World's Most Dangerous Roads

3. Guoliang Tunnel Road (China)

road

The name of the tunnel is a Chinese word which means "Road that does not tolerate any mistakes". The tunnel was initially created by the villagers from the remote area of the Taihang Mountains, so that they can get a way out to the outside world. It took 5 years to finish the tunnel which is 1,200 metre long. While constructing, many of the villagers died, but others, undaunted continued the work. The tunnel opened on May 1 1977, to traffic. At the present day, the road is 15 feet high and 12 feet wide which is quite scary for the drivers. The tunnel has 30 windows to enjoy the outside greenery.
